Written as by Cordwainer Bird (psudonym / fictional author).
Rewritten as "The Last Rise of Nick Adams".
In the first publication, in "The Impotency of Bad Karma", Farmer parodies for instance Barry Malzberg, who didn't approve of it. For that reason he rewrote the story somewhat and retitled the story as "The Last Rise of Nick Adams". But with the rewrite Farmer missed a piece of the original text, see the info.
An earlier version of this story, found in Phil's archives, was published as "Up, Out and Over, Roger" in 2012. The name of the protagonist, and some of the text differ slightly from the other two versions, but it parodies the same authors as in the first published version. So Barry Malzberg (as Hopsmount) and also Cordwainer Bird (as himself) are included, next to Asimov, Heinlein and Van Vogt.

DESCRIPTION:

Nick Adams, science-fiction author, and his wife Ashlar in a sort of parody of the science fiction world and of some of its well known people.
From Farmer's introduction: "...The genesis of the original idea for the story, the basic concept, came one day while I was considering the inflating or deflating effects of good or bad reviews of my work, of good or bad royalty reports, and so on. This story exaggerates the effects, though not very much..."
